Welcome to the home page of Metcalfe Community Academy. We are a Pre-K to 8th grade, Chicago Public School, servicing the greater community of the West Pullman area. Take a look at our web site.
25 books is an easy accomplishment for Metcalfe students.
Please contact: wrichard@cps.edu or wrichardlll@hotmail.com, if there are concerns opinions and suggested changes, thank you, Mr. Richard. Ralph H. Metcalfe (abbreviated bio) Ralph became an Olympic athlete in 1932. His events were the 100 and 200 meter sprints. In the 100 meter race he was edged out by another U.S. athlete. Ralph breasted the tape first but Eddie Tolan got his torso across the line first. Tolan took the Gold and Metcalfe the Silver, both with a time of 10.3 seconds, a World Record. In the 200 meter race he set a Qualifying Record of 21.5 seconds. In the event itself he won the Bronze Medal. The separation between the Gold and Bronze Medals was three-tenths of a second. Metcalfe returned to the 1936 Olympics and raced against Jesse Owens in the 100 meter event. He lost the Gold to Owens by one-tenth of a second. He shared a Gold Medal with Jesse Owens and two others in the 4x100 Meter Relay. With one (team) Gold, two Silver Medals, one Bronze Medal, and two Olympic Games to his name, Ralph Metcalfe was a true athlete.
